Athens Activities

Glyfada Golf Club

Greece's first 18-hole golf course was established in 1962 in Glyfada, a suburb of Athens. There are courses designed for training the young golfers and facilities for the PGA Hellas and the Hellenic Golf Federation inside this golf park. Glyfada is an upscale area with fine hotels, boating and beach access. The International Amateur Golf Tournament is held in September and the Hellenic Golf Championships are held in October yearly.

Local Cruises

Adventurous tourists can book night tours and island cruises where the entertainment may vary from tavern fare to cabarets and ethnic dancing. At the islands, one can go swimming, sailing, yachting, and scuba diving or try a host of local water sports.

Smaller ships are more suited to the Aegean Sea with its small harbors and quaint villages and towns. Local cruises are much better than cruising the islands on gigantic ships many of the islands are not reachable on those ships or may not be on their itinerary.

There are yachts and sailboat charters that may be used if you are traveling with a crowd of twenty or thirty people. You may not need to have a skipper for some of these boats. Some of the charters include luxury catamarans with gourmet meals, cozy, romantic meals on isolated, private coves and a spectacular view of the isles as well as the Mediterranean Sea.

One of the favorite cruises of the visitors to Athens is the One-Day Saronic Gulf Cruise. It is conducted every day of the year and usually visits the islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra. It leaves from the Piraeus port in the morning and travelers will be greeted at the entrance of the boat or small ship by Greeks in costumes where they can have their picture taken with them.

Taxi and Limo private tours are also available in destinations like Rhodes, Crete and Santorini where one can get excellent service with personalized itineraries and local hosts to show you around the towns and cities they grew up on.

Spas

Since the time of Hippocrates, natural and therapeutically beneficial spas which have been around for the last 2000 years has been a favorite of visitors to Greece. Island spas offer a dazzling view of the Mediterranean where one can unwind with a body massage, facials or other forms of relaxation and rejuvenation. Some of these treatments are believe to cure health issues such as rheumatism, skin diseases, arthritis, respiratory problems, circulation problems, etc.
